Operation of a wind turbine with as few interruptions as possible and the directly related high rate of return are affected to a large extent by the selection of the type of system and the corresponding protective measure for the generator.
To ensure a first fault does not result in shutdown, the generator is operated as an unearthed power supply (IT system). To be able to detect insulation faults as early as possible in this situation, there is continuous monitoring for insulation faults using an A-ISOMETER® (insulation monitoring device). This device detects and signals insulation faults at an early stage so that an unexpected shutdown is avoided.
- Short reaction times in case of a malfunction are crucial for high technical availability.
As a consequence of this information edge, maintenance measures can also be undertaken with improved planning, which signifies a significant saving in maintenance costs and the effective utilisation of personnel resources. This is particularly the case for offshore applications, as long distances must be covered over water to reach the installation for the maintenance.
