The inverters (WR) in photovoltaic systems (PV systems) differ essentially in the transformer types and the protective measures to be applied.
- Transformerless inverters are operated in earthed system (TN system) with residual current monitoring (RCMU)
- For inverters with integrated transformers or transformers arranged outside the inverter, the unearthed system (IT system) with insulation monitoring is used.
In unearthed PV installations ≥ 100 kWp, that are physically very large, the usage of equipment for insulation fault location (EDS systems) has also been proven effective.
